Interim Review 06/10/09 - Unit 1: Anatomy
ReplyDeleteHi Benga,
I like your analysis of artists' work in relation to your own ideas and it's clear you've explored a number of options regarding how you might express your identity in a single image; the boldest strategy appears to be the use of 'circles' to distort your face in relationship to the aspects of your identity they represent; I say this, because, it is a clear, strong visual statement; some of your other ideas seem rather too preoccupied with the symbolism of the chain and, in this sense, they appear rather conventional. Follow the link below - some images of distorted maps, with the distortions relating to particular issues and imbalances.

I couldn't help notice the lack of colour exploration in your portraits? I would like to see you explore other ways of mark-making and drawing; for instance, painting digitally, manipulating photographs and exploring colour in a more expressive way; there is something rather timid and too careful about your pencil drawings and I'd like to see you create rich and striking visuals. Remember, your portrait should succeed, not only conceptually, but also visually, so pay particular attention to composition, colour palette and texture etc.
Also - on a general note - refer to your brief to ensure that you are doing all that it asks of you.
